Amsterdam High improved to 8-6 overall after a 10-4 non-league victory over the Broadalbin-Perth Patriots, Thursday night at Shuttleworth Park.
"I think this win gets us back on track," Rams head coach Bob Noto said. "We made eight errors against Bishop Gibbons and lost 8-0 to La Salle in our last two games. I think this helps to get our bats going."
Dan McNamara did it all for the victorious Rams. The junior southpaw went the distance on the hill allowing four earned runs, five hits and two walks while striking out seven.
"He did a bullpen session last week but we have not had a chance to use him until tonight," Noto said. "I thought he pitched great. This is probably the third time he pitched and won against B-P including his junior varsity days."
McNamara was satisfied with his showing.
"I am bending my knees more now and it has been working," McNamara said. "I definitely got into a rhythm."
At the plate McNamara was just as impressive. He hit a triple to right centerfield that scored T.J. Sumigray from first base in the bottom of the first inning. Sumigray had drove in Zack Beck with a run-scoring single.
McNamara then hit an opposite field solo home run in the bottom of the third.
"He gave me an outside pitch and I went with it," McNamara said "On the triple, it was right down the middle and I couldn't give that pitch up. We picked it up today as a team."
"When he hits it, the ball just goes and goes," Noto said.
Also contributing in the third inning was Sumigray who had a sacrifice fly. Sean Whitty had an RBI double and Zack Beck scored on a wild pitch after initially reaching with a walk. It was now 6-0 in favor of the Rams after three.
B-P senior catcher Corey Caswell then hit a two-run home run in the top of the fourth to give the Pats some life at 6-2, but Amsterdam responded quickly.
Frank Peluso led off the inning with a single and eventually scored on a wild pitch. Bryan Davey reached on a double and would also eventually score on a wild pitch.
Davey then drove in two more in the bottom of the fifth with a single.
B-P added two more in the bottom of the seventh but it would only set up the 10-4 final. Garrett Brower had a run-scoring single.
Offensively for the Rams, McNamara finished 2-for-3 with the triple, homer and a walk with two RBI and one run scored. Davey finished 3-for-4 with two singles, a double, two runs scored, a stolen base and two RBI. Kurt Kowalczyk was 2-for-3 with a double and a single with one run scored.
"Kurt (Kowalczyk) has started the last three games and his bat is really coming around. I like his swing," Noto said.
Offensively for B-P, Caswell finished 2-for-3 with the homer, single, walk and two runs scored. Nico Butcher singled and scored.
